Just days away from the 2021 NFL Draft, Mike Strachan continues to garner attention from more franchises.
The latest group of teams to host Strachan to a virtual meeting includes the New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans.
His performance at last month’s pro day highlighted the potential that continues to intrigue teams and has Strachan rising on draft boards.
The wide receiver prospect measured 6’5” 228 pounds with 85” wingspan and 10” hands. He ran a 4.46 second 40-yard dash, put up 20 reps on the bench press at 225 pounds, posted a 35” vertical leap, 10’7” broad jump, 4.20 seconds in the short shuttle and 6.96 seconds in the 3-cone drill.
Strachan told The Jet Press how his pro day performance attracted even more attention.
“My freshman year of college I came in and redshirted so that year I was developing and getting to know the system. My third year is when I started.
“I started in 2018 and that’s when I had my first 1,000-yard year. And moving forward to the next year in 2019, that’s when I broke every last receiving record.
“After that year, I was pumped up for 2020 and I knew I was going to break my records because I have to. That’s something that’s in me, if I have a record, I’m going to break it because I know myself and I know what I can do. Unfortunately, COVID-19 took that season away,” he said.
“With that being said, I made the decision to declare for the draft and continue getting better and better, and when I had different teams calling me after my pro day, that’s when it really clicked for me. I saw that this could be a real possibility.
“I always believed it growing up and I knew that it would happen. But as you said, when did it become a real possibility? That was when, after my pro day when I was getting all these calls from different teams. I’m having meetings with general managers and coaches. So that’s when it really clicked.”
Prior to pro day, he also had virtual meetings with the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, Washington Football Team, Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, and Seattle Seahawks.
The NFL Draft will be hosted April 29 to May 1 in Cleveland, Ohio. Strachan signed with DEC Management in November and also recently joined The Society brand and marketing agency.
In his junior season, Strachan rewrote the University of Charleston record books and boosted his stock for pro scouts.
He was named an NCAA Division II Second Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association and to the 2019 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team.
He finished with 78 receptions for 1,319 yards and 19 touchdowns in his final season with the Golden Eagles. He finished his career with a share of the all-time Charleston touchdown record of 27.
He set new school records, led the Mountain East Conference in each category and was second in all of DII in both receiving yards and touchdowns.
Strachan also achieved Division II Top-10 marks for the 2019 season in receiving touchdowns (second), receiving yards (sixth), receptions (ninth), and receiving yards per game (fifth).
