BAHAMIAN Olympic gold medallists Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Steven Gardiner were treated to a series of events on Saturday as the country celebrated their performances in Tokyo, Japan on their return home.
The duo were presented with a gift bag – containing watches – from Sir Frederick Hazlewood, president of John Bull. They were then feted at a reception organised by the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations at Sapodilla.
The night ended with the Progressive Liberal Party, led by leader Philip ‘Brave’ Davis, hosting a reception at Margaritaville.
Additionally on their return home on Thursday, the athletes and their family members were feted at Aquafire by the Bahamas Olympic Committee after participating in seperate welcome home ceremonies at the Lynden Pindling International Airport by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture and the Ministry of Tourism.
On Friday, there was a luncheon at Baha Mar before they were hosted by the BOC and the Albany resort at a dinner reception at 50 Oceans.
With the official celebrations now complete, Miller-Uibo will take a break to recuperate from her injuries as she has shut down the rest of her season.
Gardiner, on the other hand, is scheduled to leave town today to prepare for his final meet in the 200m in Lausanne, Switzerland, next weekend.
