POLICE are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday night after a man’s body was found in the parking lot of an apartment building.
Shortly before 10pm, police were called to a shooting incident that occurred on East Avenue, Millers Heights.
“Units were dispatched and on their arrival at the scene they were directed to the body of an adult male lying in the parking lot of an apartment building unresponsive. The officers made a check of the body and discovered wounds consistent with gunshot. Emergency Medical Services visited the scene and pronounced the victim lifeless," police said in a crime report
“Initial investigations revealed that the victim was outside his neighbour’s residence when a male approached him and discharged a firearm in his direction, hitting about the body, fatally wounding him. The suspect made good his escape north along East Avenue. This matter remains under active investigation.”
This homicide comes after the teenage son of a police officer died after being stabbed during an argument at Arawak Cay on Saturday night.
According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, officers were called to the scene of that stabbing after 11pm.
“On the arrival of the first responding officers, they found a male suffering from stab wounds to the chest,” a police crime report noted. “The victim was transported to the hospital via Emergency Medical Services where he later succumbed to his injuries.”
In a tweet on Sunday, Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle said a team of officers visited their colleague Cpl McPhee to give support after his son was fatally stabbed at the Fish Fry. He said he also extended his condolences to the officer on behalf of the police force.
A suspect is in custody assisting police with that investigation.
Anyone with information on these incidents or any other crime is asked to call the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991, Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477) or the nearest police station.
