Arawak Cay's president is urging the Government to enforce the popular Fish Fry destination's closure on Sundays from 6pm for four months to combat patrons failing to abide by COVID-19 protocols.
Rodney Russell, who heads the vendors' association, said in a statement that his restaurant owner members were being unfairly blamed for failing to ensure guests wear masks and comply with social distancing.
He added that it had reached the point where individual restaurants, along with the police, are incapable of monitoring patrons' COVID-19 compliance or controlling them due to the size of the Sunday evening crowd.
Mr Russell said: “The executive members of the Arawak Cay Association, the Competent Authority, the police officers and the COVID-19 policing team all try explaining the danger of these actions but no one is listening.
"As president of the Arawak Cay Association, in consultation with my executive team, we are asking the Competent Authority to please assist us by closing down The fish Fry on Arawak Cay on Sunday’s at 6pm for a period of 16 weeks.
“This move might be a pain for the ones who are obeying the rules and regulations but we'd rather sacrifice four hours on Sunday and save Monday through Saturday.”
