CHAVEZ Young and the Canberra Cavalry continued their recent streak into the Australian Baseball League playoffs and advanced to the semifinals.
Young went hitless on the night, but the defending champions’ bid to repeat continues after a 3-2 win over the Sydney Blue Sox at the MIT Ballpark in Narrabundah, Australia.
It was the third Wild card game win for the club in the last three seasons. They will advance to face the top overall seed Melbourne Aces at Melbourne Ballpark in Altona, Australia.
The Perth Heat will face the Adelaide Giants in the second semifinal.
The final four teams will compete in a double elimination bracket from February 12-14.
The loser from each semifinal will be relegated to the Elimination Final.
A single Championship Game will take place on February 14.
According to the ABL, the double elimination bracket games, including the Championship Game, will be played in one location.
Limited by quarantine restrictions and a foot injury, Young appeared in just seven of the 23 regular season games for the Cavalry. He is currently ranked No. 30 on the Toronto Blue Jays’ prospect list.
He hit .217 with a .467 OPS, five hits, two runs, one RBI, five total bases and two stolen bases.
