A 27-year-old man who admitted sending death threats to his ex-girlfriend was yesterday ordered to attend anger management counselling.

Police arrested Nesley Timle after he sent his on-again-off-again girlfriend voice note messages on February 8 threatening to kill her.

He admitted the offence when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes.

The court heard the woman filed a complaint with police shortly after Timle sent the messages. After she gave a statement and requested police action, he was arrested. During his interview with police, officers played the voice notes for Timle, who acknowledged his voice in the recordings. He was subsequently cautioned and charged.

Yesterday, Timle who had a visible eye injury, told the magistrate he and the complainant had been dating from 2017 and were in an on-again-off-again relationship. He also claimed the woman had stabbed him in his eye because she could not tolerate “seeing him with other women”. He said he sent the voice notes out of anger and frustration, but even though his ex-girlfriend was abusive to him, he “kept going back to her like a fool”.

After listening to his explanation, Magistrate Forbes placed Timle on probation for 12 months on the agreement he would attend anger management classes. He warned Timle that if he failed to comply with the conditions of his release, he would be convicted of the offence and sentenced to three months in prison.
