AN ABACO man who was found with a marijuana joint during the Christmas holidays has been placed on probation for three months.

Police arrested Neo Fritz Jr, 22, after they found $5 worth of Indian hemp on him on December 28.

He pleaded guilty to one count of possession during a hearing before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis.

The prosecution said officers on mobile patrol in the Fox Hill area observed Fritz Jr driving west in a black Honda with no licence plate. They signalled him to stop and told him he would be searched for dangerous drugs and firearms. During their investigation, officers found one silver foil wrap in Fritz Jr’s front right pants pocket. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

During the hearing, Fritz Jr’s counsel, Ian Cargill, told the magistrate his client lived and worked in Abaco, but was visiting family in New Providence for the Christmas break. He insisted his client was sorry for his actions and said he took full responsibility for what he had done.

After listening to Mr Cargill’s plea in mitigation, Magistrate Rolle Davis placed Fritz Jr on three months’ probation and warned him if he appeared before the court during that time frame, he would be fined $200 or sentenced to 15 days in custody.
