A TEENAGER who broke into a man’s house was yesterday sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Sidney Melidor, 18, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney after he was accused of breaking into Troy Gardiner’s Nassau Street home and stealing his MacBook Pro Air and iPad on January 14.
The prosecution said Mr Gardiner told police that some unknown person had broken into his residence between 7.45am and 4.45pm on the day in question. After he requested police action, the accused was arrested.
When Melidor was questioned in custody, he admitted to the offence and told officers he gained entry to the residence through a window.
Yesterday, Melidor pleaded guilty to one count each of housebreaking and stealing. He was subsequently sentenced to 18 months in prison. Magistrate McKinney also ordered him to compensate the complainant for his stolen items and warned him if he failed to do so, he would spend an additional month behind bars.
