Nine held for drug possession

NINE men were arrested for drug possession in several incidents on Tuesday.

In the first incident, shortly after noon officers were on mobile patrol on Ole Boat Alley when they saw a man who looked suspicious. “When the attention of the suspect was drawn to the officers, he then fled on foot,” police said. “One of the officers gave chase and watched as the suspect threw a bag on the roof of an abandoned building. He was later caught and taken to the abandoned building. The bag was retrieved, an inspection revealed a quantity of suspected marijuana.”

The man was arrested.

In a second incident, shortly after 4pm officers were on patrol near Lyon Road off Shirley Street when they stopped a man and conducted a field search. The officers found a quantity of suspected marijuana in the suspect’s trousers. He was arrested and charged with possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply.

Sometime after 5pm while patrolling Williams Drive off Cowpen Road officers came across a group of men outside a wooden shack acting in a suspicious manner. A police search dog alerted its handler to a large black garbage bag. On inspecting the bag, officers found a quantity of suspected marijuana. The officers also found a large sum of cash. Six men were arrested and charged with being in possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply and possession of the proceeds of crime.

In a fourth incident, sometime after 1pm a joint operation consisting of officers from the Drug Enforcement, K9 Unit, and the Financial Investigations branch, executed a search warrant on a residence on Tundra Close.

While searching a shed on the property, a police dog alerted its handler. The officer found a brown box. On examining the content, a brown taped package was found. It contained a grassy substance suspected to be marijuana.

A male suspect was arrested in connection with this matter.
