THE Bahamas Olympic Committee paid its respects to the life and work of its former vice president and National Sports Hall of Fame member Roscow Davies.

Davies passed away Tuesday at age 81.

“Last evening the Olympic family learnt of the passing of our friend and colleague Roscow A.L. Davies. Obviously the news caught us by surprise and we are all saddened that Roscow is no longer with us. Roscow dedicated his life work to sports, to social affairs and to civics.

“Particularly in sports, he was an administrator extraordinaire - quiet but very resourceful and attentive. It was always a pleasure to work closely with Roscow and to see how much attention he paid to detail. He was a perfectionist I might add, but he loved what he did, he loved the administration of sports, he loved the camaraderie, he loved to see our athletes achieve internationally, and he was a great support.

“Roscow will be missed for sure. It’s no coincidence that the BFA chose to name their national stadium in Roscow’s honour,” BOC President Romell Knowles said.

“He was indeed a standout Bahamian, a son of the soil from humble beginnings who rose to greatness in his personal life. He achieved all that he set his mind to. We were fortunate to have Roscow Davies serve as our vice president of what was at the time the Bahamas Olympic Association to share with us his knowledge, his passion and his love for sports. I can tell you, all across The Bahamas, Roscow has touched administrators, sports enthusiasts, fans, athletes, not only in The Bahamas but all over the world. He will be missed. I wish to offer condolences to his family, on behalf of all of my colleagues in the Bahamas Olympic Committee, our membership as we get ready to traverse to Tokyo. We will remember Roscow as a part of our delegation, as someone who dedicated his life to the Olympic movement home and abroad, may his soul rest in peace.”

In addition to his role in the BOC, Davies also served as past president and national football team captain and played an iconic role in the Bahamas Football Association.

In recognition of his contribution to soccer, the Bahamas Football Association named its playing site at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex the Roscow Davies Developmental Centre in 2007.

He also served as Chef de Mission for national teams at Olympic, Pan Am and Commonwealth Games and was a founding member of the Bahamas Association of Certified Officials for Track and Field.
