A 24-year-old man who denied importing firearms and ammunition into the country was remanded to prison overnight pending a bail hearing.

Armani Thomas appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt charged with four counts of importation of a firearm into the country and another three counts of importation of ammunition.

Prosecutors alleged the accused smuggled two black and silver .40 Taurus pistols and two black .40 Smith & Wesson pistols into the country between February 2020 and June of this year. He is accused of importing 19 rounds of ammunition along with the firearms within that same time frame.

Yesterday, Thomas pleaded not guilty to all of the allegations.

However, before Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt could consider the issue of bail, the prosecution requested more time to consider their position.

As a result, the court was adjourned to today for a bail hearing.

Thomas was remanded into custody until that time.
