A TEENAGER who admitted stabbing his stepfather about the body during an argument was yesterday sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Samuel Higgs was charged with grievous harm after he caused “multiple lacerations” to his stepfather’s torso and scalp on July 21.
The court was told that Higgs admitted to the offence when he was arrested and questioned in police custody.
The prosecution said the complainant’s injuries required him to seek medical attention at the Princess Margaret Hospital where his wounds were described as “very serious” injuries that could “result in death”.
When Higgs appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney yesterday, he maintained his guilty plea. He also said he only attacked his stepdad because the “man was on cocaine and would wake up everyday rowing and hallucinating”.
Magistrate McKinney said he considered the accused’s young age and early guilty plea, but because of the serious nature of the offence, he would impose a custodial sentence on him.
Higgs was subsequently sentenced to 18 months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
