A 24-year-old man who admitted breaking his former girlfriend’s door during a row was yesterday ordered to compensate her for her damaged property.
Police arrested Tramine Knowles after he caused $191.60 worth of damage to the house door of his former partner on May 30.
He admitted to the offence when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis.
The court was told that Knowles caused extensive damage to the door when he got into an argument with the complainant at her residence. After she requested police action, the officers investigating the woman’s complaint arrested Knowles. He owned up to the offence during an interview with police.
Yesterday, the accused was represented by attorney Bernardo Ferguson. He told the magistrate the incident took place because his client was attempting to retrieve his keys from inside the home, but was not able to get them. He also noted Knowles pleaded guilty at his first opportunity because he did not want to waste the court’s time and insisted he was willing to compensate his ex-girlfriend for the broken door.
After listening to his explanation, Magistrate Rolle Davis fined Knowles $250. He also ordered him to compensate his ex-girlfriend in the amount of $191.60. He told the accused that if he failed to do so, he would be sentenced to 14 days behind bars.
