THE Bahamas, ranked at number one in Group II of the Americas Zone of the Billie Jean King Cup, will begin competition today in Panama City, Panama.
Playing out of Group A, the Bahamas will be matched against number four seed Uruguay and No.5 Costa Rica.
The Bahamas will open up against Costa Rica.
“I feel great about the match-up and can’t wait to go out there tomorrow and compete,” said player/captain Kerrie Cartwright.
Perry Newton, president of the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association, who is also in Panama with the team, said the team is looking good.
“Everybody is looking good. They had a good practice in and they have gone through all of the COVID-19 protocols and are ready to compete,” he said. “We anticipate that the team will perform very well, especially since they have been ranked as the top team in the tournament.”
With all of the players having played at the Fed Cup before the name was changed in recognition of former world number one player Billie Jean King, Newton said the players are primed and just waiting to start competition.
