Cocaine suspect awaits bail hearing

A 41-year-old man who denied importing 23 pounds of cocaine into the country was remanded to prison pending a bail hearing.

Antonio Baillou appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney after he was accused of conspiring to possess the drugs with the intent to supply sometime between March 6 and 11 of 2020.

The prosecution accused Baillou of smuggling the cocaine into the country during that same timeframe after he was found with the drugs on March 11, 2020.

Yesterday, Baillou pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to possess dangerous drugs with the intent to supply, possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to supply, conspiracy to import dangerous drugs and importation of dangerous drugs. He returns to court on July 2 for a bail hearing.

The accused, who is represented by attorney Moses Davis, was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until that time.
