AN ELEUTHERA man who denied assaulting another man and stealing a woman’s purse was granted bail ahead of his trial.
Police said Deonte Albury assaulted a man with a car in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera on February 14.
It is also alleged he stole and dishonestly received a woman’s handbag which contained her $1,000 iPhone, $350 in cash and a variety of bank cards that same day.
During his hearing before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt, he denied the allegations and his case was transferred to the Eleuthera district to be heard by a circuit magistrate on March 25.
In the meantime, Albury was granted $4,000 bail.
Another Eleuthera man also appeared before Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt after he was accused of stealing a sum of cash from a woman on the island.
The prosecution said Marvin Pinder broke into a woman’s Governor’s Harbour residence to steal $800 cash on February 17.
The accused was also accused of trying to escape lawful custody when police attempted to arrest him three days after the incident.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and his trial was also adjourned to be heard by a circuit magistrate in Eleuthera.
During Pinder’s arraignment, the prosecution requested more time to determine whether they would object to the issue of bail.
The accused was remanded into custody in the interim.
