AN 18-year-old man was yesterday charged with murder in connection with the shooting of another teenager who was found dead in a car last week.
Randy Mackey appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson charged with the death of 19-year-old Renardo Morley on March 9.
According to initial police reports, sometime after 9pm police received reports of a shooting incident that occurred on Sugar Apple Street, Pinewood Gardens. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a white Honda Accord in the street with extensive damage. Officials said when officers examined the vehicle, they discovered a male in the driver’s seat with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services visited the scene a short time later and pronounced the man dead.
“Inquiries also revealed that the driver was traveling east along Sugar Apple Street, when a small Japanese vehicle drove across his vehicle,” police said earlier this month. “A male exited the small vehicle and discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver, injuring him. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and collided into a wall.”
During the hearing, Mackey was not required to enter a plea and the matter was adjourned to June 17 for service of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).
The accused, represented by attorney Nathan Smith, was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in the interim. He has a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
