IZAAK Bastian concluded his 2021 season for the Florida State Seminoles with a productive showing at the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.
Bastian was an individual qualifier in the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In the 100 breast, Bastian’s time of 52.29 seconds finished at No.19 among the field of 40 competitors. He recorded splits of 24.67 and 27.62.
In the 200 breast, Bastian swam 1:56.50 to finish at No. 36 in a field of 44 swimmers. His splits were 25.90, 29.53, 30.48 and 30.59.
Bastion and the Seminoles’ 400 medley relay team of Mason Herbert, Max McCusker and Peter Varjasi finished in 3:04.83 to win heat two, just shy of the school record of 3:04.47. Bastian swam a split of 51.26.
They eventually finished at No. 11 overall, their highest finish in the event since 2014 when they finished at No.6.
In the 200 medley, the quartet finished at No.14 overall with a time of 1:23.91. Bastian’s split was 23.29.
“We’re just happy for the guys,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said.
“They did not get to do this last year, so we are grateful for this year. There were so many times I really didn’t think this meet would happen. After all of the issues, it was a great finish and I’m super proud of our guys.”
