Bahamas in 3rd place after 7-2 loss to El Salvador

The Bahamas fell to a 1-2 record and third place in Group B after a lopsided loss to El Salvador yesterday at the 2021 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships.

Lesly St Fleur scored two goals for Team Bahamas in the 7-2 loss to El Salvador yesterday in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

St Fleur scored the opening goal of the game less than two minutes in, but El Salvador scored three unanswered to take control.

St Fleur opened the third with his second goal of the game to trim the deficit to just one, but El Salvador ended the game on a four-goal run.

El Salvador leads Group B undefeated at 3-0, followed by Guatemala at 2-1 and the Bahamas is third, followed by a winless Dominican Republic.

The top two finishers in each group and the two best third-place finishers will advance to the knockout stage.

After a break in action, the knockout stage begins with the quarterfinals on May 21, followed by the semifinals on May 22 and the final on May 23.

The Bahamas will face Mexico in the first of four quarterfinals. Mexico finished as the top team in Group A. Other quarterfinals are El Salvador versus Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica versus Guatemala and finally, Panama versus The United States. The two semifinal winners will earn a spot in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021, August 19-29, 2021, in Moscow, Russia.

The Bahamas has appeared in five previous editions of the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships, in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

In 2019, they were eliminated in the quarterfinal of the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The Bahamas finished their run in the tournament with a 2-2 win-loss record.
