THE trial of a Dominican man and a Colombian man who denied smuggling cocaine into the country was adjourned yesterday after the prosecution’s witnesses failed to attend court.
Juan Cabrera, 56, and Luis Colmenares, 26, were arrested after they were accused of conspiring to possess cocaine with intent to supply sometime between August 18 and 30.
Prosecutors allege that the Dominican and Colombian nationals were found with the drugs in Clarence Town, Long Island and George Town, Exuma, that month.
They further accused Cabrera and Colmenares of importing the dangerous drugs into the country within that same timeframe.
Although their trial was scheduled to commence before Magistrate Samuel McKinney yesterday, the two police witnesses who were scheduled to give evidence were not present.
Despite requests for a final adjournment from their lawyer, the matter was adjourned to December 9 for trial.
The accused, who were in custody from September, were once again remanded to the Department of Correctional Services in the interim.
