PRINCE Strachan and his John Carroll Catholic Golden Rams continue their run in the Florida High School Athletic Association playoffs and are headed to the regional final - second consecutive upset - with a win.
The No.5 seed Rams defeated another higher ranked opponent with a dominant 35-0 shutout over the No.1 seed Avant Garde Academy Sharks in the Class 2A, Region 4, playoffs.
On a rainy night in Hollywood, Florida, the Rams improved to 7-2 behind a stout defence and handed the previously unbeaten Sharks their only loss of the season (8-1).
Strachan’s night was highlighted by a 55-yard reception with the Rams offence backed up to their own five-yard line on a third-and-five play in the second quarter. They went on to score a touchdown on the drive and take a 14-0 lead.
The Rams will advance to face the Champagnat Catholic Lions, the two-time defending 2A champions, November 26 in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The winner will advance to face the winner of the First Baptist Academy versus Northside Christian matchup to advance to the state semifinal.
After a bye in the opening round, the Lions defeated Glades Day 35-7 in round two.
The Rams opened the playoffs with a 41-20 win over the No.4 seed True North Classical Academy Titans.
Last season, the Rams were eliminated in the Class 3A regional final and finished the season 9-2.
