EDITOR, The Tribune.
I found two lines of Ortland Bodie’s letter published in Thursday’s Tribune most interesting. In that letter Mr Bodie not only admits that Peter Nygard was his “good friend”, but was also his “former patron”.
This Friday, Mr Bodie’s good friend is scheduled to have his extradition request heard in the Southern District of New York having been arrested in Winnipeg last December under the extradition Act on charges of rape and sexual assault. Nygard is facing charges of racketeering, sex trafficking and related crimes.
Nygard was arrested in Winnipeg, Canada, accused of sexual assault in Canada, the US and the Bahamas. His extradition case is expected to start in New York on Friday. He lived in the Bahamas on his property Nygard Cay where many of the offences of which he is accused is alleged to have taken place. In 2020 two of Nygard’s sons accused him of setting them up to be raped by his girlfriend — a “known sex worker” – when they were teens. At the time they requested a jury trial. However, Nygard’s lawyer dismissed their allegations as lies.
If Mr Bodie tunes in he should learn much about his “friend” whose reputation was so notorious in The Bahamas before he fled to Canada, that Mr Bodie should have at least been aware of what was being alleged.
Anyway it will be interesting to follow the case of this “good friend” when it opens in New York at the end of this week.
