MIKE Strachan played sparingly in his Indianapolis Colts’ first win of the season but said the experience of having his family in attendance was a “blessing.”
The Colts defeated the Miami Dolphins 27-17 yesterday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
“It’s emotional, it’s definitely a blessing to be out here in front of my family and in front of the Bahamian people,” the rookie wide receiver said. “I just want to continue to do my best and play to the best of my ability.”
Strachan played 52 snaps over the first two weeks of the season with games against the Seattle Seahawks (two receptions, 26 yards) and Los Angeles Rams, but was also inactive in week three against the Tennessee Titans.
“I can only control what I can control but I’m always ready to play and ready to show what I can do,” he said.
Among the group attending yesterday’s game were Strachan’s parents, extended family, the new Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Mario Bowleg and a host of other supporters based in The Bahamas and in the Florida area.
Mike’s younger brother, Prince Strachan, is a star wide receiver in his own right for the John Carroll High School Golden Rams in Port St Lucie, Florida.
Strachan had another standout performance in his team’s 20-0 win over the South Fork Bulldogs Friday night before watching his older brother against the Dolphins yesterday.
It’s a great experience, it’s a dream come true,” he said of watching his older brother suit up in the NFL.
He was recently named to the ESPN West Palm Top 63 List for the class of 2021, has picked up several NCAA offers at various levels and alongside Mike, had an opportunity to workout with Colts quarterback Carson Wentz in the offseason.
“That was one of the best moments of my life. Just to be able to train and catch passes and learn from a pro quarterback, it was one of the best experiences of my life,” Prince said.
“I want to be the best in Florida. I want to show what I can do, make my team, and family proud. Senior year is a lot of pressure on me, my team has a lot of high hopes for me so I just want to live up to those.
Last season, he finished with a team-leading 33 receptions for 633 yards and eight touchdowns last year. His yardage and touchdown totals were second on the team. He also averaged 18.6 yards per catch and 57.5 receiving yards per game.
“I always want to set a good example for him, it’s a part of the reason why I continue to work so hard and be a positive role model for him,” Mike said.
