BAHAMIAN basketball players have continued their respective seasons in leagues across Europe.
Travis Munnings got his first start of the season with Sporting Lisboa Benfica. He finished with nine points and a game high seven rebounds in a 96-57 win over Victoria SC.
He also had his first start in the FIBA EuroCup and finished with 10 points, five rebounds in just 22 minutes of a 78-73 loss to Den Bosch.
Benfica lost their first game of the EuroCup regular season, but is 2-0 in local Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB) play yesterday.
When they return to LPB play on October 17, they will square off against Munnings’ former club - Oliveriense.
Their next EuroCup match will be October 20 against Parma. Munnings is averaging 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. This will mark Munnings’ second season in the LPB. Benfica eliminated UD Oliveirense club in the quarterfinals of last season’s playoffs.
In his debut season in the LPB, Munnings averaged 12.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game helped lead UD Oliveirense to a 19-7 regular season record.
Kino Burrows and St Thomas Basket Le Havre in France’s NM1 League fell to 1-3 on the young season, ranked 11th in Group B.
Burrows finished with nine points and six rebounds in Yesterday’s 83-77 loss to Mulhouse. The veteran forward is averaging 7.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this season, his first with the club after spending his previous French seasons in the ProB League.
Last season, Burrows completed his second stint with the FOS Provence-Basket Byers of the LNB Pro B League.
In 11 games, he averaged 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game en route to the Byers claiming the league championship and receiving a promotion to JEEP Elite Pro A for the second time in club history.
Shaquillo Fritz made his debut with Zamora Enamora in Spain’s LEB Silver League.
He finished with eight rebounds and two blocked shots in an 85-60 win over Carbajosa. The 6’8” forward spent last season with two LEB Silver Clubs - Venterro CBV Villarrobledo where he averaged 3.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 11 contests and Hozono Global Jairis where he averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game through 10 contests.
