OFFICERS recovered a loaded gun from a man who fled when he noticed a marked police vehicle on patrol, a court was told.
Police said Christopher Scott was found with a 9mm Glock pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition in December 2020.
He denied the allegation when he first appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis and the matter was adjourned for trial.
When Police Constable 3940 Lamar Ash gave evidence yesterday, he told the court he was travelling east on Dorsett Street in the Fox Hill area, when he noticed Scott standing on the northern side of the street. PC Ash said when the accused noticed his police vehicle, he ran which prompted him to chase after him. He said as Scott was fleeing, he tried to hide behind a red vehicle. He said this is where he saw the accused pull out the loaded gun which caused him to fear for his life. He said he then heard shots and saw Scott throw the pistol and drop to the floor. PC Ash said other officers then came and arrested him.
When he was cross-examined, the officer said the gun was dusted for fingerprints; however, no prints were found on the weapon.
Corporal Nelson Smith was the second officer to testify yesterday. He said he was the one who interviewed Scott when he was taken into police custody. Cpl Smith said when he questioned Scott and showed him the firearm and magazine, he denied the offences. He also said the accused declined to read over or sign his statement.
The case continues on November 10.
