A 26-year-old man accused of murdering another man as he sat on the porch of his home last week was denied bail yesterday.

Livingston Knowles appeared in court yesterday, charged with the fatal April 7 shooting of Lynhurst Johnson.

The accused was also charged with illegal firearm and ammunition possession after police allege they found him with an unlicensed black Glock .9mm pistol and seven unfired rounds of ammunition on the same day.

Police said that shortly after 2pm on April 7, a man was sitting on a porch at Ragged Island Street when another man approached him, firing several shots in his direction.

Police said after the suspect escaped, they pursued him in the area as he led them on a high-speed chase onto Wulff Road.

The chase ended on Andros Avenue where the suspect was arrested after running into a residence. Officers also collected a firearm, it was reported.

During his hearing before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt, Knowles denied being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. He will return to court for trial on the charges in October.

Pertaining to the murder charge, the 26-year-old was not required to enter a plea to the offence and the case was adjourned to September 21 for presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

As a result, bail was denied, and he was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until that time.

Also appearing in court for an unrelated firearm matter was Omar Miller, 45.

Miller was arrested after police allegedly found him with an unlicensed black Austria Glock .45 piston and ten unfired rounds of ammunition on April 7.

Miller pleaded not guilty to the gun charges and bail was granted to him at $8,500 with two sureties.

He was also ordered to report to the police station nearest to him once a week.

The accused will next return to court September 21 and 22 for trial.
