AN attorney representing a 35-year-old man accused of assaulting a police officer claimed he was attacked by the officer.

Joeneil Rolle, 35, was arraigned yesterday on charges of causing harm and assault.

Police allege that the 35-year-old assaulted a police officer with his motorcycle and caused him harm on April 18.

However, the accused has denied the allegations.

During yesterday’s hearing, Rolle’s attorney asked the court to take note of her client’s injuries which she claimed was caused by the officer on the day in question.

She said the officer kicked Rolle in the head and told the court he had to be taken to hospital for the injuries.

“The court could also reflect that he has blood on his shirt,” the attorney added.

In response, Magistrate Serville made a note of the claims and subsequently granted the accused bail at $3,500 with one or two sureties.

He was also ordered to report to the Carmichael Police Station once a week.

The matter was adjourned to July 27 for trial.

In a separate matter, a 38-year-old man was ordered to attend anger management classes after threatening to harm his neighbour earlier this month.

Ryan Johnson appeared in court facing the charge after he threatened Indira Evans with harm on April 4.

He pleaded guilty to the offence during his hearing before Magistrate Shaka Serville yesterday.

Johnson’s attorney asked the court for leniency, noting his client was self-employed and had no prior convictions.

He also asked the court to consider giving him a conditional discharge as he pleaded guilty early at the earliest opportunity and chose not to waste the court’s time.

As a result, the magistrate ordered him to attend anger management classes.

Johnson was told that failure to comply would result in a fine or prison sentence.

Jacque Jules, 42, also appeared in Magistrate’s Court yesterday after he was accused of assaulting and causing harm to a woman and further threatening her with death on April 17.

Police also allege that he caused damage to her phone the same day.

However, in court, the woman told the magistrate that she wished to drop the charges against Jules, which were ultimately withdrawn.

When asked if she was withdrawing the charges of her own free will, the woman replied: “Yes.”
