Three deny $1m marijuana charges

THREE men who denied being found with over $1m worth of marijuana in Abaco last week were yesterday granted bail before their trial.

Chaino Cornish Sr, 52, Chaino Cornish Jr, 31, and Raphael Murray, 39, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney accused of being in possession of 1,254 pounds of marijuana with intent to supply and conspiring to possess the same with intent to supply.

The charges stem from a drug seizure at a home in Cooper's Town, Abaco on April 17.

Police said sometime around 3pm that day, local law enforcement — assisted by the US Coast Guard, US Customs and Border Protection and the Drug Enforcement Administration — executed a search warrant of a home in the settlement.

While there, officers discovered 26 crocus sacks with suspected marijuana, resulting in the arrest .

The estimated street value of the drugs is $1.254m.

During yesterday’s hearing, the accused men pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

After recording the accused’s not guilty pleas, Magistrate McKinney granted the men bail at $60,000 with one or two sureties.

The men were also ordered to be outfitted with an ankle monitoring bracelet and to report to the Cooper’s Town Police Station once a week.

The men will next return to court on July 26. They are being represented by attorney Ian Cargill.
