A MAN was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services yesterday for allegedly attempting to kill two men with a handgun.
Gavante Rolle, 22, represented by Attorney Ian Cargill, stood before Magistrate Samuel McKinney in relation to six charges. The charges included two counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, as well as possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition charges.
On July 26 at West Dennis Court, Rolle reportedly pulled up to Franklyn Dean’s residence in a Nissan March and opened fire at Dean with a black 9mm pistol. After successfully evading the gunfire, Dean is said to have gotten into a fight with Rolle over possession of the weapon. During this altercation Dean was beaten about the body with the gun, including to the face.
It was also at this time that the second victim in this matter, Timothy Dorsette, was caught in the crossfire and hit by a stray bullet.
After his arrest the defendant was found with the same 9mm pistol and five live rounds of 9mm ammunition.
While the defendant pleaded not guilty to firearm and ammunition charges, Rolle was informed he was not able to enter a plea for the four remaining charges. As such Rolle was told those matters would proceed by way of Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).
The magistrate further informed the accused that he had the right to apply for bail in the Supreme Court, where his trial will ultimately be held.
Until such time that bail is granted, Rolle will be remanded to BDCS.
His VBI is expected to be served on October 4.
