A MAN was placed on six months’ probation yesterday after pleading guilty to threatening to stab estranged family members to death.
Gregory Miller, 63, represented by Attorney Wendawn Miller-Frazer, appeared before Magistrate Shaka Serville on three charges. These include use of deadly means of harm, assault with a dangerous instrument and threats of death.
At around 1.15am on August 3 in their shared residence on Palmetto Drive, Miller is accused of assaulting his sister-in-law Portia Miller with a knife. He is further accused of threatening to kill Mrs Miller along with his brother and nephew - Jonathon and Javon Miller.
In court, Miller pleaded guilty to all charges.
As part of the plea of mitigation, Attorney Miller-Frazer stated that her client was a father-of-three, one of whom was present in court with other family members, who had no prior convictions.
After mentioning her client was remorseful for his actions, Mrs Miller-Frazer said there had been previous altercations between the family members while they are all awaiting probate for their residence. Javon Miller is said to have assaulted Gregory Miller with a firearm in the past.
The defendant’s attorney implored the court to only impose a conditional discharge on Miller in view of his early plea of guilt sparing the court’s time.
Magistrate Serville granted Miller a conditional discharge where he is to be placed on probation for six months. Should the he default on these conditions he will face a $3,000 fine.
The magistrate also warned Miller to avoid any unnecessary interactions with the complainants while the probate of their shared home is settled.
