TWO men were arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday on separate drug charges.

Kesner Jean-Baptiste, 29, represented by Attorney Wendawn Miller-Frazer, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney on three charges. Those charges were possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply, simple possession of dangerous drugs and money laundering.

On August 5 in New Providence, the defendant was reportedly arrested after he was found with three ounces of Indian Hemp and three grams of cocaine. On that same day, police confiscated $1,149 in cash from Jean-Baptist suspecting it to be the proceeds of crime.

In court, the accused pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

With there being no objections to bail from prosecutor Inspector Timothy Bain it was granted to the defendant at $2,500 with one or two sureties.

Jean-Baptiste’s trial in the matter is set for September 14.

The other man, Lasean Kemp, 28, also appeared before Magistrate McKinney on a charge of possession of dangerous drugs.

On August 7 in New Providence, Kemp was arrested after he was found with three grams of Indian Hemp in a Ziplock bag on his person. In a subsequent police interview the defendant admitted to authorities that he owned the drugs and explained that they were for his personal use.

While the defendant said he only had one gram of marijuana in his possession during his arrest, he pled guilty.

The magistrate bound Kemp to keep the peace for one year.

Should the defendant have any further run-ins with the law during that time, he would face a $400 fine or two months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services for the offence.
