A 21-year-old man accused of using counterfeit Bahamian money to purchase a cell phone last month was granted $3,500 bail ahead of his trial.
Elltin Jean appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney charged with fraud by false pretences, uttering a forged currency note and possessing forged currency.
Police allege that the accused used fake $100 and $50 Bahamian bills with different serial numbers to purchase a cell phone device, valued at $700, from Brenden Lamma on January 27.
Police said the accused not only had the forged notes in his possession that day, but also uttered the same.
However, the 21-year-old has denied the allegations and the matter was adjourned to March 28 for trial.
The accused was also granted bail at $3,500 with one surety.
