The Organisation for Responsible Governance (ORG) has unveiled Hubert Edwards as head of its economic committee.

A managing consultant at NextLevelSolutions, Mr Edwards is a former senior bank executive, senior auditor and regulatory consulting manager with a major public accounting firm, and an ex-senior bank examiner with the Central Bank of The Bahamas.

Matt Aubry, ORG Bahamas’ executive director, said of the appointment: “ORG is very excited to have Hubert Edwards, one of The Bahamas’ economic visionaries, at the helm of the Economic Development Committee.

“He will be leading a diverse group of volunteers as they look to partner with government and the private sector to research and identify actionable policies and opportunities to sustainably grow GDP in The Bahamas.

“Hubert is incredibly thorough in his analysis of policies, and the committee will look to promote greater understanding among the public about the Bahamian economy and the forces that affect it.”

A regular contributor to newspapers and current affairs discussions across multiple media platforms, Ms Edwards has lectured on several subject matters including risk management, anti-money laundering, compliance and corporate governance. He is a John Maxwell Team certified speaker, coach and trainer and member of the Florida Speakers Association, specialising in leadership training and coaching.

“This opportunity to chair the Economic Development Committee is a much-welcomed continuation of my efforts to contribute to the growth and development of the country,” said Mr Edwards.

“This, I believe, aligns perfectly with the objectives of ORG, which has proven itself to be fully committed in its advocacy for advancements in national governance and leveraging the immense potential of non-governmental organisations for national gain.

“This appointment will create opportunities to share ideas, contribute in structured ways to discourses of national importance, and provide leadership support in an area of great passion and of critical importance to our future,” he added.

“I wish to thank the leadership of ORG for this expression of confidence, and look forward to working as part of the team, learning and growing together as we work to advance economic recovery, developments and build in the best interest of The Bahamas.”

A fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (UK), Mr Edwards is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica; a certified anti-money laundering specialist (CAMS); a member of the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants; and holds an MBA with distinction from the University of Manchester.
