THE Bahamas Interscholastic Equestrian League regular season came to a close last weekend, with riders from grades 4-12 in schools across New Providence marking the league’s first year as Region 13 of Zone 4 of the US-based Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA).

The final show was held at Camperdown Equestrian Centre, and was officiated by judge Robert Robold of Cocoa, Florida.

The league featured a 4-show series, with riders amassing points in team and individual categories with the goal of advancing to the Regional Finals competition. Teams required 20 points total to qualify for Regionals, while individuals required 18 points.

Teams and individual riders celebrated as the final points were tallied and those who qualified for the Zone 4 Region 13 Regional Finals were identified.

In the end the CEC Blue Marlins varsity and the Mariposa Monarchs varsity are expected to face off in the Varsity Teams division.

The Mariposa Gold Drops team were the sole qualifiers in the Futures Teams division, and so were automatically awarded the title of Futures Team Regional Champions.

Twenty-one riders qualified at different levels for the individual classes, from the Varsity Open to Beginner Walk Trot.

All qualified riders will compete at the Region 13 Regional Finals scheduled for February 26-27 at Mariposa Stables.

The winning teams and riders of the Regional Finals will automatically qualify to represent The Bahamas in the IEA Zone 4 Hunt Seat Finals competition, set to be held March 20-21 at the Tryon International Equestrian Centre in North Carolina.
