SEVERAL Bahamian student athletes led the Tallulah Falls varsity girls’ basketball team to the Regional Tournament title.

Denika Lightbourne, Veronaye Charlton, Miracle Bain and Tanisha Seymour led TFS to a 47-38 win over Prince Avenue Christian Tuesday night in the Region 8-A Private Championship in Monroe, Georgia.

Lightbourne led TFS with a game-high 14 points, while Charlton scored seven and Seymour scored four.

TFS clung to a three-point lead and were in the midst of an 8-0 run when Lightbourne answered with a three pointer to make the score 36-30.

After a PA score, Lightbourne would have another clutch moment down the stretch when she converted a conventional three-point play with 1:54 remaining.

It was the second consecutive regular season region title for TFS and the first-ever girls’ basketball regional title.

TFS will host the first round of the state playoffs on either February 22 or 23, with the opponent to be determined. They head into the state playoffs with a 13-4 record.

They began their playoff run with a 42-28 win over George Walton in the semifinals to advance to their second consecutive title game.

Charlton scored a game high 21 points in the semifinals while Lightbourne scored nine.

Bahamians also play a prominent role on the TFS varsity boys’ baseball programme. Locals on this year’s roster includes seniors Norman Bastian and Joel Miller from New Providence and Malique Charlton and Kristian Williams from Grand Bahama.

The other Bahamians on the team are junior Frankey Moree from New Providence, sophomores Zaiden Cox from Grand Bahama and Caden Walker from New Providence, and freshman Danny Grant from Grand Bahama.

Miller is expected to be a big piece back for the lineup, as he hit .250 with 13 RBI and had five doubles along with 21 runs scored. He will be joined by Moree (.239) who had 15 RBI and scored 10 runs and Bastian, a transfer student, to help lead the charge for the Indians.

They began the season with a dominant 12-0 home opener over Rabun County at the Higgins Baseball Complex in Rabun Gap, Georgia, on Tuesday night.

The Indians needed just seven hits to tally 12 runs, and Bastian finished with a team-high three RBI and Miller had four runs.

Miller got the offence going in the first with a leadoff single and Bastian eventually produced a run-scoring groundball after a fielding error.

In a four-run second inning, Charlton hit another lead off single and promptly stole second.

Bastian was able to drive in another pair of runs and Moree highlighted his day with an RBI single to left to take a 5-0 lead.

The Tallulah Falls School, based in Tallulah Falls, Georgia, is an independent, co-educational boarding and day care school serving more than 500 students from grades 5-12.
