One of the top junior golfers in the island nation, Heathcliffe Kane took his game on the road and earned a first-place finish on the international stage.

Kane tied for first place at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s Southeast Florida Junior Open February 12-13 in Miami Lakes, Florida.

In the Boys 16-18 division, The Albany Academy product shot rounds of 78 and 36 to tie Diego Azar from London, The United Kingdom, and Brett Kaufman from Palmetto Bay, Florida, for a weekend total of 114 each.

According to the organisation, the Orlando, Florida, based HJGT hosted events in 28 states and Canada during the 2021 campaign. The HJGT season is based on a calendar year and players earn points throughout the season towards year end honours beginning December 31, 2021.

“The HJGT was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment,” the organisation said.

“Currently the HJGT is the largest multi-day junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour.”

Kane has a World Amateur Golf Ranking of 3,573 and a points average of 228.3.

Locally, Kane is the defending Bahamas Golf Federation (BGF) National Amateur Golf champion.

Kane easily carted off the top prize in the men’s division with a total gross score of 215 (72-69-74).

He also captained Team Bahamas and finished 10th individually in his division at the 33rd Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships (CAJGC) in The Dominican Republic.
