DURING the first month of the spring edition of its developmental programme, The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) has employed a consistent and structured approach.
A pivotal focus is the younger divisions, in particular the 4-7 year old group and the 8-11 year old group.
These two groupings make up approximately 76 percent of the Play Tennis registrants. The younger kids work on eye and hand coordination, forehands and backhands whilst the older kids add serves and are able to rally, playing from day 1.
By building from the ground up the programme is laying a strong foundation in these age divisions for overall growth in junior tennis players. In the most recent session on Saturday kids between the ages of four and 16 years participated in a fun and productive session. This week, top junior Anthony Burrows Jr, who has represented the country on multiple national teams, was in attendance, volunteering his talent and time. We are thankful for the seeds that are being planted into the next generation through the volunteers. Attracting players to the sport is one goal and making the lessons fun and engaging is also a mission. The BLTA is pleased that this programme for beginners still garners so much interest. The programme is tailored in accordance with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Play and Stay campaign. We hope and pray that the participants not only play but stay in this awesome sport. All kids are welcome and can register via email at: pr@ blta.net
