JONQUEL Jones and her UMMC Ekaterinburg Foxes returned to FIBA Women’s EuroLeague play for the first time in nearly a month and remained just as dominant as the last time they took the floor.
Jones finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and four steals in the Foxes’ 90-77 win over ZVVZ USK Praha in Prague, Czech Republic.
The Foxes improved to 11-0 in the EuroLeague season.
Jones is averaging 15.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 65 percent from the floor, 40 percent from three, and 75 percent from the free throw line. UMMC Ekaterinburg will host their next EuroLeague game on January 20 when they face KSC Szekszard out of Hungary. The Foxes won the first matchup between the two teams on November 2, 82-67. Jones finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She has posted five double doubles thus far in EuroLeague play.
Yesterday’s match completed a busy week for Jones that began with the Foxes’ 13th straight league victory to remain perfect in their 2021-2022 Russia Premier League season.
They dominated Peresvet SFedU Rostov-Don, 92-43, at the Rostov-on-Don Palace of Sports in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, on Sunday.
Jones scored 18 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds in 30 minutes on the floor. She shot 7-10 from the field.
They will return to the Premier League on January 16 when they face Dynamo Moscow at Verkhnyaya Pyshma in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Jones’ extended offseason last year included three championship titles with the Foxes. They claimed their sixth FIBA Women’s EuroLeague title. The Foxes’ season of milestones also included the Russian Premier League title for the 15th time in club history, and for the 13th consecutive season, along with the RFB Super Cup.
“We didn’t lose a game, so I don’t think you can do too much better from that standpoint,” Jones said about her 2020-21 UMMC experience. “I just worked on a lot of things and was able to sharpen myself playing against the best players every day in practice, playing with them on the court.”
