A 40-year-old man who admitted stealing a television set from a local restaurant on Christmas Day was sentenced to 14 months in prison yesterday.
Reginal Jean appeared before Magistrate Kendra Kelly charged with shopbreaking, stealing and attempted stealing.
According to court documents, Jean broke into Hidden Treasures restaurant on Marigold Farm Road and stole the restaurant’s flat screen TV valued at $500.
The accused was further charged with trying to steal $10 from Kimberly Thompson on January 16.
Jean pleaded guilty to the charges, telling the court he had a “cocaine” problem and was under the influence when he committed the acts.
Asked about the location of the stolen item, the accused said he didn’t know where it was.
As a result, Magistrate Kelly sentenced him to one year behind bars for each count of shopbreaking and stealing. The sentences will run concurrently.
He was further sentenced to two months in prison for the attempted stealing offence and the magistrate also ordered that he receive drug counselling.
