A JAMAICAN man who overstayed his welcome in the country by four days was yesterday ordered to pay $1,000 to avoid spending one month behind bars.
Immigration officers arrested Roger Robinson on January 11 after being alerted to his whereabouts on Joe Farrington Road.
Upon arrival in the area, officers arrested Robinson and later took him to the Carmichael Road Detention Centre for further processing.
The prosecutor said system checks revealed Robinson entered the country on December 24, 2021 and was only admitted for 14 days. Investigations also revealed the accused did not attempt to extend his stay in the country.
During his hearing before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans yesterday, Robinson pleaded guilty to the offence.
Before handing down her sentence, Magistrate Vogt-Evans told him his actions were unacceptable.
As a result, he was fined $1,000 and warned that failure to pay the fine would result in one month in prison.
The magistrate also ordered that Robinson be handed over to immigration for deportation.
