A 35-year-old man accused of kidnapping and robbing several people at gunpoint last month was remanded to prison yesterday.
Akandi Gibson was arrested after he was accused of using a firearm to rob a man and two women of over $100,000 in cash and an assortment of other items, including a cellphone, 2020 Honda vehicle and jewellery on December 30, 2021.
Police said Gibson also kidnapped two of the victims he stole from the same day while being concerned with others and said he used the stolen funds to purchase an iPhone on December 31, 2021.
He is further accused of having $7,310 in his possession on December 30, 2021 which represents the proceeds of crime.
Gibson was also charged with one count of receiving after police alleged that he dishonestly received some of the stolen items sometime between December 30 and 31 last year.
The 35-year-old was not required to enter a plea to the offences during his hearing before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt yesterday.
Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt told him that his case would be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial through a voluntary bill of indictment.
As a result, bail was denied and the matter was adjourned to March 30.
