A MAN, charged in a magistrate’s court with threatening another man at a bar, was yesterday given a conditional discharge and told to behave.

Lawayne Curtis, 33, appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux on a charge of threats of harm.

On May 27 in New Providence at the Hi-Tech Bar, Curtis reportedly threatened Antonio Adderley.

In court, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge.

Curtis explained to the court that he and Adderley, who had been friends for 13 years, had fallen into a verbal altercation at the bar. Curtis told the court that he had no real intention to cause the complainant harm. He apologised for his actions and for wasting the court’s time.

The magistrate accepted Curtis’s guilty plea and granted him a conditional discharge. Under the terms of this discharge Curtis is expected to behave for one month after which he will be granted an absolute discharge.

Defaulting on these conditions would result in Curtis’ conviction being recorded and him having to serve a one-month sentence at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services. The accused will return to court for mention on July 29.
