A MAN was placed on a conditional discharge yesterday for threatening another man with an imitation gun.

Ricardo Dames, 41, stood before Magistrate Shaka Serville on a charge of possession of a firearm with intent to put another in fear of life.

On June 29 in New Providence, Dames reportedly threatened Carlos Swain with a handgun.

However, it was revealed in court by the prosecution that the weapon used in this incident was an imitation gun.

The defendant still pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

In view of his early plea of guilt, the magistrate was lenient in his sentencing and only placed Dames on a conditional discharge.

As part of the terms of Magistrate Serville’s ruling, the defendant will be placed on six months’ probation where he is expected to be of good behaviour.

Should Dames default on these conditions he will incur a $1,500 fine for any future offence as well having this conviction recorded.

The defendant is expected to return to court for mention on December 16.
