A MAN was fined $300 yesterday for assaulting his estranged girlfriend during an argument.
Delano Beckford, 44, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney on a charge of assault.
At around 11:55pm on July 10 on Meadow Street, Beckford is said to have assaulted his ex-girlfriend, Jessica Russell, by striking her about the body.
While the defendant pleaded guilty to the assault charge, he said he only pushed Ms Russell during an argument the two had that day.
Magistrate McKinney sentenced Beckford to pay a fine of $300 or risk a month in prison. Beckford was further bound to keep the peace for a year and warned also not to have any contact or interfere with Ms Russell.
A breach of any of these conditions would result in the defendant spending three months in custody.
