A MAN was granted bail in Magistrate’s Court last week after being accused of attempting a fraud marriage to gain a spousal permit.

Kenold Dorsainvil, 43, stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans on multiple fraud charges. These include fraud by false pretences, attempted fraud by false pretences and entering into a fraudulent marriage.

On June 14, 2016, Dorsainvil - with the alleged aid of Registrar Department employee Edisa Adderley, who has already been granted bail in this matter, fraudulently obtained a marriage certificate.

This falsified marriage certificate was then unsuccessfully used to try and obtain a residential spousal permit at the Bahamas Department of Immigration on Hawkins Hill on November 23, 2016.

After receiving confirmation from the Department of Immigration that the defendant had a valid work permit the magistrate had no objections to his bail.

It was granted to him at the sum of $5,000 with one surety. The accused is expected to sign in at the Marsh Harbour Police Station in Abaco every Monday by 5pm.

Dorsainvil’s trial is expected to commence on July 14.
