AN ANDROS man was sentenced to nine months in prison yesterday on charges related to housebreaking, stealing and damage.
Perez Pickstock, 32, of North Andros, represented by Attorney Howard Thompson, appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain to face the charges.
Between June 13–14 Pickstock was accused of breaking into Samuel Russell’s home on Sir Henry Morgan’s Drive in Nicoll’s Town, North Andros, causing $100 worth of damage to two window screens and $150 worth of damage to a glass windowpane.
While at Russell’s residence Pickstock was accused of stealing a 32” Toshiba Flatscreen TV valued at $350, a Rev Cable Box worth $45 and a $400 DVR box.
In court, the accused pleaded guilty to all three charges.
During his plea of mitigation, Mr Thompson said his client had sold the stolen items to finance his cocaine addiction. It was because of his client’s drug problem that Thompson asked the court to be lenient in its sentencing of Pickstock. He also asked for drug rehabilitation for his client.
In view of this, Magistrate Swain sentenced him to nine months in prison for both the housebreaking and stealing charge and three months for the damage charge. The sentences are to be served concurrently.
While in custody, the magistrate says that Pickstock will be enrolled in drug treatment and counseling classes.
The accused has within seven days to appeal the court’s decision.
