FOLLOWING several postponements, The Dalhousie Tigers were back on the court in Atlantic University Sport play and Shamar Burrows delivered a weekend of career-scoring performances to extend their win streak to seven.
In game one, Burrows finished with 27 points on an efficient 11-15 shooting night from the field en route to a 100-74 win over the Acadia Axemen Friday night in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. In game two, he finished with 26 points on 10-15 shooting from the field last night in an 82-67 win over the UNB Red Bombers at home in Halifax, Nova Scotia
The Tigers improved to 10-2 on the season, nationally ranked at no.7 in Canada’s U Sports. Against Acadia, Dalhousie took a slim 20-19 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 44-35 at the half.
With a 67-55 advantage after three quarters of play, the Tigers extended their lead to a game-high 26 points with just over a minute remaining in the game. Burrows scored 17 of his 27 in the second half as the Tigers pulled away. He also added four rebounds and three assists.
In game two, Burrows added four rebounds and four steals to earn Subway Player of the Game honours.
The Tigers led 17-15 at the end of the first quarter and 43-32 at the half on 52 percent shooting from the field on 17-33 made attempts.
The Tigers will close out the regular season next week in a weekend series against Diangelo Woodside and the Cape Breton Capers.
The fourth-year guard is one of several players returning to a Dalhousie team that made programme history in the 2019-20 season.
The Tigers ended just short of their ultimate goal, but finished as the second ranked team in all of Canadian collegiate basketball. They finished with the silver medal at the 2020 U SPORTS Final 8 Basketball Championships - the best finish in programme history.
After his first season with the programme where he played sparingly and averaged just 3.3 points per game, Burrows improved to 8.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 54 percent from the field in 20 games with six starts in year two.
