AN AMERICAN was arraigned yesterday after he was found in Bimini in possession of nine firearms as well as extended magazines and ammunition.
Cary Allen Chappel, 51, of Texas, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson Pratt on over 25 counts of firearm, ammunition and magazine charges.
On March 13, police arrested the accused and several other suspects at South Bimini International Airport who were allegedly found in possession of firearms hidden in various boxes. The contents of the boxes included nine 9mm pistols, one silencer, one glock magazine, three 9mm magazines, one M-4 magazine, seven black magazines, 50 .40 hollow tip rounds, 17 .40 rounds, two extended 9mm magazines and 157 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Chappel informed the court that he was partially deaf in his left ear, but told the magistrate he should still be able to hear her.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him including several importation and possession charges. The accused was granted bail in the amount of $60,000 ahead of his trial in September.
