COMING off a spectacular finals at the World Juniors team competition in El Salvador, Bahamian junior tennis players Jackson Mactaggart and William McCartney have achieved top 10 rankings in the Under-14 Central American & Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC) poll.

Mactaggart is positioned in the 6th spot and McCartney the 10th. Both boys, who are nationally ranked 1 and 2 respectively in the BLTA U-14 category, are also nationally ranked in the BLTA U-16 category and have broken into the top rankings in the U-14 regionally.

Mactaggart was featured on COTECC top players over the summer in their new generation tennis players segment on YouTube. He was a doubles champion at the G3 JITIC last summer along with partner Cordoba.

Mactaggart and McCartney were also part of the Bahamas Junior Davis Cup team that advanced to the playoffs this week in the Dominican Republic, placing 6th. They had a very impressive month of tennis.

Perry Newton, president of the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA), extended congratulations to both Mactaggart and McCartney on their achievement by soaring to new heights on the regional stage.

“Their hard work, strong work ethic and commitment have catapulted them in this arena. We know it was not easy and that they had the support of family, coaches and friends,” Newton said.

“We congratulate all who have had a hand in their success. They have represented the nation twice over the last month and we are happy the regional polls reflect their excellent efforts as they climb up in the rankings.”

The entire tennis community is proud of Jackson’s and William’s achievements. Continue to excel.
