A 30-year-old man who stole from a woman’s car last week was yesterday ordered to pay $250 to avoid spending eight months behind bars.
Paul Farquharson III was arrested after he was caught red handed stealing Apple airpods from a woman’s vehicle on March 25.
Police say officers found the accused committing the act sometime between 12.30am and 1.30am that morning.
The vehicle in question was parked near a local club, the court was told.
During his hearing before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis yesterday, the accused admitted to the offence.
When asked about his reasons for stealing, the accused told the court he had a “dope” problem and said he was unemployed.
Still, he acknowledged that his actions were wrong.
“It was a bad decision... I’m sorry,” he said, while asking the court for leniency.
In response, Magistrate Rolle-Davis ordered Farquharson to compensate the woman for what he had stolen. The value of the stolen airpods is $200.
He was also fined $250 and told that failure to pay the fine would result in him spending eight months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
